David James Bemis, “Ogiman Mikineak Inini” age 41 of Iron Mountain, MI passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital after a battle with cancer.
He was born December 26, 1979 in L’Anse, MI son of Debra Lindner and Ralph Bemis. David graduated from Baraga High School in 1998. He worked as a welder for over 25 years for VanStranten Brothers in Baraga and then Northwoods Manufacturing in Iron Mountain. He owned Beartown Kennels and bred, trained, and sold Redbone coonhounds and also ran dogs. David loved spending time with his children and was a great dad. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, foraging, being outdoors, and listening to music.
David was a member of the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa Indians and a descendant of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community.
Surviving are his parents, Debra Lindner of Gwinn, Ralph (Carrie) Bemis of Assinins; children, Desiree, Nytasha, Alysha, David Jr., Miayah, Nikolaus; girlfriend Jessica Yott of Iron Mountain; brother Ralph (Joanna) Bemis of L’Anse; sister Nicole Bemis of Atlantic Mine; step maternal grandmother Valerie Lindner of Canton, MI; numerous nieces, nephews, and step children.
Preceding him in death are his brother James Bemis; paternal grandparents, George and Joan Bemis; maternal grandparents Carol Weldon, Gerald Lindner; brother-in-law Conrad LaPlante.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, July 27th at 12:00 p.m. at Most Holy Name of Jesus Church in Assinins with Fr. Corey Litzner officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Assinins Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Jacobson Funeral Home of L’Anse is assisting the family.
