David W. Carlborn, 84, formerly of Ripley and well known local business man, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Canal View – Houghton County.
He was born in Ironwood on July 31, 1937 to the late Arne and Elsie (Swanbeck) Carlborn. Following graduation from Ironwood High School, he served in the United States Army for two years. He worked in Milwaukee for a time and then moved back to Ironwood where he was employed at a used car dealership for a couple of years. He then moved to Ripley where he owned and operated Automotive Imports. In 1971 be started his own business, Goodwin Motors in Houghton. The business is still run by his son, Scott Carlborn.
Dave was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Todd, a granddaughter, Amber Carlborn, and by sisters Doris and Arnett. He is survived by four children: Scott (Phyllis) Carlborn of Houghton Canal, Dawn (Jim) Williams of Hancock, Karana (Bhavesh) Shah of Texas, and April Carlborn of New Jersey; grandchildren Jerrin, Joey, Arya, Renny, and Josh; two great-grandchildren Jordyn and Jackson; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Brahm Semmler Smith to officiate. Burial will be in Ironwood, Michigan. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 P.M. until the time of services.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to Little Brothers~Friends of the Elderly, 527 Hancock Avenue, Hancock, MI 49930 in the name of David Carlborn.
