Obituary: Curtis Gale Royal

Curtis Gale Royal, age 80 of Skanee, MI passed away on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023 at
McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, Michigan.

He was born August 19, 1943 in New Madrid County, Missouri, son of Kern and Hazel (Stewart) Royal. Curt grew up traveling around Missouri and Illinois with his family doing labor work with his father. He met his wife Lorraine Bonini in Illinois and they married in June 1972. Curt was a cabinet maker for about 20 years, prior to purchasing The Finn’s Bar in Skanee in 1989. He owned and operated the bar until 2011 when he retired.

Curt enjoyed fishing, hunting, fourwheeling, gardening, yard work, being outdoors, fllipping cars, and helping his son, Rusty with his landscaping business. He also enjoyed going to camp and
spending time with his friends. He was an honorary member of the Arvon Outlaws and the Skanee Bear Hunters.

Surviving are his son Russell “Rusty” (Sheila) Royal of Baraga; ex-wife Lorraine Bonini of Hancock; grandchildren, DySean, Dhanya, and Breyelle all of Baraga; sister Judy Wingfield of Illinois; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents Kern and Hazel Royal; brother Gary Royal; sisters, Lois Darmafal and Doris “Lucy” Duval.

A celebration of life will be held on November 12, 2023 at The Finn’s Bar in Skanee.
