Obituary: Cosie C.  LaFernier

Cosie C.  LaFernier age 64 of Zeba, MI passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022 at her home in Zeba. She was born in L’Anse, MI on June 11, 1958, the daughter of the late Wilbur and Lois (Stoddard) LaFernier. Cosie graduated from L’Anse High School in 1976 and received her associates degree in Social Services from Finlandia University, Hancock, MI. Cosie had been employed with Tribal Public Works in the housekeeping department. She was a member of Most Holy Name of Jesus-St. Tekakwitha Catholic Church, Assinins, MI, Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, and the Ojibwa Senior Citizens Center. Cosie enjoyed diamond painting, reading, music, taking car rides, shopping, eating out, making pasties at the Ojibwa Senior Center, and was an avid Minnesota Viking fan. She especially loved spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Cosie is survived by her loving family, brothers Michael (Susan) LaFernier of L’Anse, Harry LaFernier of Baraga, sisters Marcia (Dennis) Wentland of Holdingford, MN, Angela Friisvall of L’Anse, Margaret (John) Vanover and Becky (Ralph) Decker both of Hawesville, Kentucky, brothers-in-law Chris Landreaux of LaPlace, Louisiana, and Bob Douglas of Hawesville, KY, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her loyal dog “Chow Sue”. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Earl, John and Patrick, sisters Arlene, Georgia, Rose and Sybil, and brothers-in-law Pete and Gerald.

A memorial funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, September 17, 2022 at the Zeba Hall, Zeba, MI with Father Corey Litzner officiating. The family will greet friends at the Hall on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Immediately following the funeral service, the family invites friends to join them for a luncheon. Interment will take place in the Pinery Cemetery, L’Anse, MI.
