Clark Givens, cherished husband, beloved father, esteemed educator, and passionate sports enthusiast, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in Houghton, Michigan. He was 86.
Clark was a man of many passions and talents, each of which he pursued with unwavering dedication and enthusiasm. Born with a quick wit and contagious sense of humor, he brightened the lives of all who knew him. His devotion to his family was evident in every moment spent with his beloved wife, Sally, and their two sons, Brendhan and Bjorn.
Throughout his illustrious career, Clark left an indelible mark on the academic community as a revered mathematics professor at Michigan Tech for an impressive 47 years. A graduate of the University of Michigan, he possessed a profound understanding of mathematics that distinguished him as a luminary in his filed. His intellectual curiosity and passion for learning inspired generations of students, and his contributions to academia will be remembered for years to come.
Beyond the classroom, Clark found solace and joy in the world of sports. From the days as a standout center fielder for the university of Michigan’s fast-pitch softball team to his tenure as a beloved coach, he shared his love of the game with countless athletes. His leadership and mentorship extended beyond the diamond, as he guided little league and senior league teams to victory, culminating in an unforgettable UP finals win in 1987.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Clark’s love for music, literature, and cinema enriched his life and those around him. Whether singing and recording his favorite songs, delving into academic literature, or enjoying classic films, he approached each interest with boundless enthusiasm and a thirst for knowledge.
Clark Givens leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lifelong learning. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, colleagues, and the countless lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.
