Obituary: Clarence “Duke” John Seavoy

As received from the Jacobson Funeral Home:

Clarence “Duke” John Seavoy, age 84 of Skanee, MI passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

He was born on March 28, 1938 in L’Anse, son of Walter and Eleanor (Skuggen) Seavoy. Duke graduated from L’Anse High School in 1956. After High School he joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. When he came home he sailed the Great Lakes for a few years before he settled down and started work at Pettibone in Baraga. He traveled all over the country delivering machines, demonstrating how they worked and anything else they needed him to do. He retired from Pettibone in the early 2000’s.

On October 14, 1972 he married the love of his life Carol Stubinski in Marinette, WI. Together they raised 4 children in Skanee. They were inseparable to the point that she preceded him in death 9 days prior. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.

Duke was known as a jack of all trades. He was always tinkering and building something. He could look at a problem and figure out how to fix it or make a tool that would do the job. If you needed a building moved Duke was your guy. He enjoyed hunting and fishing almost as much and he loved spending time with family and especially his grandchildren.

There is so much more that could be said about Duke because pretty much everyone who knew him had a “Duke” story. The most important one is that he was a Loving Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Papa and Friend.

Surviving are his children, Jim Seavoy of Skanee, Susan Seavoy of Skanee, Pam (Gilbert) Martinez of L’Anse, Duke Seavoy of Skanee; sister Emily LaPlante of L’Anse; grandchildren, Brett, Cody, Caitlin, Courtney, and Isabelle as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Walter and Eleanor; wife Carol; brothers, Daniel Seavoy and Walter “Scott” Seavoy.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 24th from 11-1:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. His funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Dave Hoskins officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Skanee Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Baraga County Area Veterans.
