Obituary: Christine (Tina) Kate (Maki) Luusua

Christine (Tina) Kate (Maki) Luusua battled an illness and then entered eternal life on May 11, 2021 at U.P. Healthcare System in Marquette, MI.

She was born on November 26, 1954 daughter of Alec and Gertrude (Tolonen) Maki. Tina graduated from L’Anse high school in 1972. She was married to David Harold Luusua on May 25th 1974 in Baraga. Dave cherished Tina with the sweet love. They had such a special relationship. They were married for 46 wonderful years. Throughout their lives they lived in Baraga Michigan, Lincoln Nebraska, Sarasota Florida and retired to L’Anse Michigan.

Tina had a variety of jobs. She worked at a retirement park, a day care and in group homes. She had a love for others and especially for her family. She was known for her sense of humor and wit. She was always fun to be around. She loved to play scrabble, read, go to the beach, and go camping and four wheeling with Dave and traveling and spending time with family.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dave, sister Alice (Jon) Rylander of Lake Villa, Illinois, sister Lee (Bill) Rowe of Gwinn, sister Norma (Bill) Virta of Trout Creek, sister Helen Nelson of Baraga, and brothers-in-law Bill Funke of L’Anse, and Jack Bell of Sarasota, Florida. She was also adored and will be greatly missed by all of her nieces and nephews. She is now in heaven playing scrabble with her sister Sis, (Verna).

She was preceded in death by her parents Gertrude and Alec Maki, sisters Sandy Bell, Verna Funke, and brothers Andrew, Alec, and David Maki.

Services will be at 2 pm Saturday May 15th at the Aura Cemetery with Pastor Herschel Smith officiating. Gathering to follow at the Pavillon at the Baraga State Campground. In lieu of flowers, condolences can be sent to David Luusua at 8 Center Street, L’Anse, MI, 49846. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
