Charles “Sully” Johnson, 80, a resident of Misery Bay passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the Omega House in Houghton following a short illness.
He was born on July 15, 1943, in Hancock, a son of the late Wilhart and Hilda (Mikkola) Johnson. Charles was raised in Toivola and attended the Heikkinen and Jeffers Schools.
Mr. Johnson was a veteran having served with the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Following the service Sully moved to the Milwaukee area and on June 12, 1971, was united in marriage to the former JeanAnn Denzer. The couple shortly after moved to make their home in Toivola where Sully Built the family a log home from the trees on the property.
Mr. Johnson had worked as a trucker for the Copper Country Dairy, Elmer River Sugar Bush, Strack Construction and Mattila Construction. He also was a seasonal snow plow driver for the Houghton County Road Commission. In his retirement, Sully was a rural route mail delivery person in the Toivola and Twin Lakes areas.
Mr. Johnson was a proud dad to his sons and enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing picking berries or shooting a game of pool with is buddies.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his in-laws: Oak and Gertrude Denzer.
Surviving are: His wife of 53 years: JeanAnn Johnson of Toivola; Hs sons: Sully Johnson of Utah, Scott (Kellie) Johnson of Marquette, Paul Johnson of Laurium, & Phil (Cheryl) Johnson of Lake Linden; His grandchildren: Laurie, Marrissa, Taylor, Damion, Hailey, Tyler, and Brady; His great-grandson: Enzo; His brothers: Louis (Diana) Johnson of Toivola & Martin (Sandra) Johnson of Toivola; His twin sister: Charlene Johnson of Toivola; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
Military Honors for Sully will be held at 6:00 pm Monday, June 3, 2024, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Mt. View Chapel of South Range. A time to remember Sully and share memories will be held Monday June 3, 2024, from 3 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Toivola Cemetery.
Sully’s family would like to thank the Staff of the Omega House in Houghton, Baraga County Home Care & Hospice and the Veteran’s Administration for the care and help given to him during his illness.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorial donation in Sully Johnson be made to the Omega House in Houghton.
