Obituary: Charles Bonini

Bootjack: Charles Bonini, 88, of Bootjack, passed away at his home on June 16, 2020.

Charlie was born on March 4, 1932 in Hancock, MI, son of the late James and Stella Pearl (Gale) Bonini. Charlie married Paulette Bonini (Cleckner) on October 7, 1967, they owned and operated the Lake’s Dairyland Restaurant in Lake Linden for 30 years.

Charlie was a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1952 to 1955. He served during the Korean conflict with the First Marine Air Wing Helicopter Group No. 161. He worked on the ships of the great lakes and then joined the Iron workers Association Local 783 with Gundlach Champion Inc. for a number of years, where he worked on the Houghton Lift Bridge, Bishop Baraga Shrine and many other Upper Peninsula structures.

He was preceded in death by: his loving wife of 46 years- Paulette Bonini; four sisters- Ruth Malgren, Lillian Sarazin, F. Tully Bonini, Alberta St. Andre; and two brothers- Albert C. Bonini and James (Sparky) Bonini.

He is survived by: 2 daughters-Brenda Bonini of Bootjack and Lynn (devoted son-in-law, Robert) Kisul of Bootjack; 7 grandchildren-Joseph, Antoinette, and Richard Negron of New York, Joslynn and Jolena Perala of Lake Linden, Brittni Kisul of L’Anse and Sergeant Zachary Kisul of the U.S. Army; one sister Eleanor Weber of Manistique; one brother Roy G. Bonini and his wife Lenore of Bootjack along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Our loving, caring and devoted father, grandfather, friend and mentor enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and dearest friends, and will be sadly missed.

Our family would like to express a great amount of gratitude and appreciation towards Aspirus Keweenaw Hospice nurses: Steve and Scott; Dr. Hafeman; and personal health aides: Roger, Donna and Margarita who devoted much time and special care.

Charlie requested private residential services to be held in his honor. The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.
