Cecelia N Dowd, age 70 of Baraga, MI passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay, WI. She was born in L’Anse, MI on June 20, 1954 to the late Eugene “Beans” and Isabelle (Shalifoe) Chosa. Cecelia graduated from Baraga High School. She attended Bay Mills Community College, Finlandia, and KBOCC and received her Bachelor Degree in Early Child Care. Cecelia worked with KBIC child care for many years. She was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, Ojibwa Senior Citizens Center, and a 1st Degree out of the Three Rivers Midewiwin Lodge. Cecelia enjoyed sewing, reading, writing, especially poetry, beading, painting, and gossiping. She adored her family and her three gifts, her sons. She also loved all her nieces and nephews, and her siblings. Cecelia dedicated her life to taking care of the children of community and still remembers names of them. She also helped with her grandchildren and is very proud of them. Cecelia is survived by her sons Jason (Holly) Dowd of Marinette WI, Jon Dowd of Pelkie, MI and Dave (Nikki) of Harvey, MI; her grandchildren Amber, Kyle, Jake, Devin, Dylan, Justin, Austin, Zack, Abbi, Skarlett, Peyton, Treavor, Tanner, and Eli; and her great-grandchildren Jackson, Caelum, Maela, Ricky, Noah, Calvin, and Greyson. Also, her siblings Thomas (Flo) Chosa of Baraga, James (Faith) Chosa of Billings, MT, William (Patti) Chosa of Covington, MI, Donald (Clara) Chosa of Baraga, MI, Henry (Nancy) Chosa of Baraga, Anita Chosa of Baraga, Carol-Jean (George) O’Hare of Hammond, IN and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, an older brother and sisters Kathy, Lois, Arlene and daughter-in-law Keri LeClaire. Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 starting at 5 p.m. at the Ojibwa Senior Citizen Center, Ceremonial Room, in Baraga. Services conducted by Brian McInnis were held on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 9:45 p.m. in the Ceremonial Room. A feast was held. Spring interment will take place in the Assinins Cemetery.
