Onnela Location – Catherine Ruth Markham, age 86, died Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at home.
Cathy was born July 27, 1935, in Florence County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Harry and Lenora (Eastman) Buckman. The family moved to Houghton when she was young, and she graduated from Houghton High School in 1953.
She married Robert Markham on June 18, 1954. Together they raised three sons and celebrated 61 years together. She was an avid gardener, putting up produce for the family and giving much to friends and neighbors. She grew to love her simple country life and took great joy from her yard, gardens, fields and woods.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald Markham of L’Anse; Roger (Paula) Markham of Gaylord; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Markham, of Onnela.
Nine Grandchildren: Andrew (Shannon) Markham of Olympia, Washington, Jon Markham of Houghton, Lee Markham of Texas, and Rebecca Markham of Onnela; Katherine Markham of Gaylord, Alice Markham (Kory Wegmeyer) of New Mexico, Joseph Markham of Gaylord, Emma Markham of Gaylord, and Samantha Markham.
Four great-grandchildren: Audrey, Vincent, and Amelia Markham of Olympia; and Keagan Bowen of Gaylord.
One sister, Louella Beaudette; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Sr., one son, Robert Jr., and one grandson, Robert III; brothers Sylvester Buckman, Donald Buckman, and Russell Buckman, and sister Helen Bell.
In accordance with Cathy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will honor her privately.
