Catherine Marie “Tinka” Niemi, 89, of Hancock, passed away on Friday evening, February 11, 2022 at Canal View – Houghton County where she was a resident patient for the last 18 months.
She was born in Hancock on April 6, 1932 to Arnold and Marie Kangas and graduated from Hancock High School. Marie had a long career as a teller at Superior National Bank branches until her retirement. She was very well known and liked by the many customers at the bank during her career.
On May 26, 1973 she was untied in marriage to Milton Niemi. He preceded her in death on September 23, 2021.
Tinka enjoyed gardening and canning. She had many talents such as cake making, sewing, and farming. She also loved visiting with friends and family, often wearing a smile.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Sue Rodewald, and a granddaughter, Leela. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Canal View Houghton County for Catherine’s kind and compassionate care during her stay there.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock with Pastor Jesse Aho of Zion Lutheran Church to officiate. Spring interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
