Obituary: Carole Harris

Carole Joan Harris, 85, passed away on October 8, 2021 at UP Health System-Portage in Hancock following a short illness.

She was born in Chassell in 1936 and resided in Hancock area. She worked at Vollwerth & Co for 12 years. St. Charles, Michigan was also her home for many years before moving back to Hancock.

She is survived by Debbie Smith(daughter) ,Dawn Struer(daughter), Corey Clark(grandson), Kameron Struer(grandson), Diane Hendrickson(sister),Stan Roberts(brother), Anne Halgren (sister-in-law), Jill Hendrickson(niece), Kerry Nadobny(niece), Terry Lishinski(niece), Patty Moscatello(niece), Suzanne Hebner(niece), and Kristy Strom(niece). Carole is preceded in death by her Mother Loretta Garnell and step father Richard Garnell, Buck Harris(father of her children) , Doug Halgren(brother) and sweetheart Ron Amato.

She enjoyed her numerous trips to California to visit her daughter and grandson and to St. Charles to visit her daughter, sister, nieces and grandson. She loved being near the water, going for long rides, watching old western movies and tv shows and bakery from Roy’s.

The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful care given by UP Health System-Portage. Additional gratitude to Susie and Brian Henderson for their love and support for Carole and being there for her for so many years. Nick and Loret Roberts for taking Carole on many Sunday drives and visits that she so enjoyed. And to Donna Ruohonen, her caregiver, for taking such good care of Carole.

Memorial Service will be held on October 13th at 4:00 at O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock with Reverend Father Jubish Joseph to officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 P.M. until the time of services. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
