Carole A. (Wes) Makela, 75, a resident former resident of Dodgeville passed away Sunday, August 30, 2020, at UP Health – Portage Hospital shortly after being admitted.
She was born on January 14, 1945, in Hancock, a daughter of the late Werner and Ann (Zorich) Uitto. Carole was raised on the Boundary Rd. and attended the Isle Royale and Houghton schools.
On June 5, 1971, she was united in marriage to Wesley Makela and the couple has resided in Dodgeville since that time.
Carole was always a hard worker having worked for Gino’s Restaurant, Pepsi Cola, Jim Foodmart, Vertin’s Department Store, First of America Bank and retired from the Sales Department at the Daily Mining Gazette after 20 years.
Mrs. Makela was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton and enjoyed working on various crafting projects.
Preceding her in death were her daughter Marilee Anderson, Her parents; her sister Lorraine Richards and her brothers Bob and Gene.

6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren

A prayer service for Carole will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, September 3, 2020, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Fr. John Martignon to officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.
Friends may call on Thursday, September 3, 2020, from 12 noon until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock.
