As received from Antila Funeral Service:
Carol S. Giachino, 82 of Bootjack, passed away peacefully at Portage Pointe on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, with her children by her side.
Carol was born on December 29, 1937, daughter of Arthur and Esther (Tormala) Lepisto. She was a graduate of Calumet High School and attended Suomi College (Finlandia University).
On February 8, 1958, she married Joseph (Joe) Giachino. They made their home in Laurium, later moving to lower Michigan where Carol worked for Great Scott Grocery Stores, and then for several years at Cambridge Insurance Company, retiring in 1999. Carol and Joe returned to the Copper Country where they made their home in Bootjack.
Carol served as the church secretary for the Laurium Apostolic Lutheran Church for many years, retiring at the age of 80. She always enjoyed working a couple of days a week and would get Joe to go with her so she could keep him busy doing odd jobs.
Carol loved her family. Her greatest joy was to spend time with family, cooking and baking for them, going out on the pontoon, fishing or just sitting out in her “sunroom”. Carol had a great smile with an infectious laugh to go with it. She loved to talk about her kids and grandchildren, whom she was so proud of.
Carol will be missed by her daughter, Tina (Tom Houle) Giachino; sons, Joe Giachino and Dean (Juli) Giachino; grandchildren, Christopher (Sara) Mitchell, Dustin (Emme Rowe) Mitchell, Jordan (Dominic) Fornero, Joseph Giachino, Jenna and Adam Giachino; great grandchildren, Chloe, Max and Vieno Mitchell. She is also survived by sisters, Jean (Charles) Royal, Sara (Pancho) Nunez; brother, Russ (Duffy) Lepisto; sister-in-law, Sharon Giachino; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe; her parents; brother, George Lepisto and sister- in-law, Carol Lepisto.
Her children would like to thank all of the staff at Portage Pointe for the compassionate and wonderful care their mother received.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet. Arrangements are being handled by the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home of Hancock, Antila Funeral Service, Inc. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at antilafuneral.com.
