Obituary: Carl Jarvela

Calumet

Carl Jarvela, 93, a resident of Calumet passed away on Friday May 18, 2018 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility.

He was born on February 3, 1925 in Allouez a son of the late Charles and Annie (Sarja) Jarvela.

He attended Calumet High School.

He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy during WW II.

On June 4, 1949 he was married to Judy Lammi.

Carl worked as a crane operator for C & H Mine at the Smelter in Hubbell. After the closing of the mines he worked at Hamar Quandt, Homestake Mine, and lastly at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility retiring in 1989.

Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and dancing to polka music.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Preceding him in death was his parents, 4 brothers: Robert, Stewart, Iriving & Gordon and 2 sisters: Ethel & Marbelle.

Surviving are: His wife of 69 years Judy

Daughter: Kay (Byron) Thomas of Wyoming, MI

Sons: Roy (Iris) Jarvela of Bumbletown
Ross (Jennifer) Jarvela of Batavia, NY

Grandchildren: Shanon, Erin, Laurie, Jeffrey, Alex and Angela

Great Grandchildren: Kaylee, Jude, Evan, Remi, Henry, Elena, Carissa, Nyah, Jett and Samuel.

Sister: Bernice Johnson of Escanaba

A funeral will be held on Wednesday May 23, 2018 at 12:00 (Noon) at Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet with Pastor Tim Johnston to officiate.

Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the time of the services.

The Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
