Obituary: Beatrice Y. Wuori

Beatrice Y. Wuori (nee Ollila), 89 of Tapiola, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, September 6th, 2022 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L’Anse, MI.

She was born on November 4, 1932, in Mohawk, MI to Einard and Sophie (Amala) Ollila. Beatrice attended Calumet High School. She married Albert Wuori on November 21, 1951, in Laurium, MI. They lived in Michigan until 1962, moving then to New Hampshire for 22 years. They then returned to Michigan and split time between Tapiola and Lantana, Florida for a number of years thereafter. Beatrice attended Claremont College in New Hampshire, becoming a nurse’s aide. She worked at Highland Park Hospital in Detroit and Hanover Terrace in New Hampshire.

Beatrice was known as an excellent cook and loved to gather family and close friends for meals. She and Albert enjoyed extensive travel until later years. Along with cooking, her hobbies included baking, basket weaving, sewing, and knitting. Beatrice was a longtime member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Tapiola. She instilled in her children godly honor, a love of laughter and love for one another in the love of Jesus Christ her Lord.

Beatrice is survived by her husband of over 70 years, Albert, her sons Richard (Deborah) Wuori of Nampa, Idaho, Stephen (Jacqueline) of Sylvan Lake, Alberta, daughters Carol (Michael) Niemela of Henderson, NV and Patricia (Leland) Knuuttila of Tapiola, MI, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, her sister Elaine Porkka of Calumet, MI, brothers Earl Ollila of Warren, MI and Leslie Ollila of Dunbar, WI, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ronald, Stanley, and Ervin(Heinie) Ollila, sister Dorothy Ollila and grandson Nathan Wuori.

Visitation will be held at the Tapiola Apostolic Lutheran Church on Friday, September 9th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the church at 3:00 pm with Pastors Ken Storm and Stephen Wuori officiating. A private family burial will follow at the Elo Cemetery. Jacobson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
