Obituary: Barbara Lewis

As received from the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home:

Barbara C. Lewis, 86, a former Copper Country resident passed away on Sunday October 24, 2021, following a short illness.

She was born on October 6, 1935, in Laurium, Michigan to Richard and Cecilia (Schneller) Rowe. She attended the local schools and graduated from Lake Linden High School with the Class of 1953. Following high school, Barb went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Michigan.

Barb’s career began in the field of Children’s Psychology at the University of Michigan. Her career included positions as Director of LPN Training, OB Gyn and Delivery at Grace Hospital of Detroit, and general nursing. She ultimately capped her professional career in Home Healthcare through a fulfilling position with Hospice of Marin where Barb was blessed with the opportunity to meet the Founder of Hospice and work with many wonderful volunteers and staff. In between Barb’s many contributions through her work, she took time off to raise three loving children.

Barb’s love of music and singing consistently expressed itself throughout her life as she sang with Sweet Adeline’s, playing the piano, and organizing her family around the piano for sing-a-longs. She was an avid reader, loved to travel and was very much a lover of conversation and connection with others.

On August 16, 1958, she was united in marriage to Donald Lewis in Lake Linden at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Barb and Don enjoyed 63 wonderful years together in faith, love and a lifelong commitment to each other, their families, and the Lord.
