Barbara Ann “Barb” Poupore, age 90 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Portage Pointe in Hancock, MI surrounded by her family. Barb was born in L’Anse on October 2, 1933, the daughter of the late Wilfred and Dorothy (Roberts) Pelon. She grew up in Manistique, MI and graduated in 1951 from Manistique High School. Barb enjoyed participating in various sports in high school with basketball being her love.
Barb married Vernon Poupore on April 7, 1953. After living in various locations in Lower Michigan they made their home in L’Anse. She was employed at the Hilltop Restaurant as a cook for several years.
Barb had fond memories of playing on Berts Beauties women’s softball team and being a volunteer referee for girls’ basketball.
She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was involved with Saint Rita’s Circle. Over the years she was an active volunteer at the St Vincent de Paul store in L’Anse. Barb and Vern enjoyed spending time at their camp at the mouth of the Huron River. It was a place where many happy family memories were made. Barb will be remembered for her friendly personality and happy demeanor. She always had a smile on her face and was quick to laugh.
Barb and Vern had three children, Donald (Judith) Poupore of Negaunee, MI, Patricia (Paul) Dove of L’Anse, and Bonny (Darin) Walendowski of Pelkie, MI. She is survived by her children, brother Ernest (Bobbie) Pelon of Manistique, sister Joan Lowery of Escanaba, sister-in-law Joan Poupore of South Carolina, 10 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Wilfred Pelon Jr, John Pelon and sister Carol Schroeder.
Barbs family wishes to thank the excellent staff of Portage Pointe for their kind and compassionate care.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, L’Anse with Father Jins Joseph, celebrant. No visitation will be held per Barbs request. Immediately following Mass, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the church hall.
Interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery in the spring of 2024.
The family wishes to request no monetary gifts or flowers during this holiday season, rather please help someone less fortunate in Barbs honor.
