Obituary: Arthur “AJ” Gullstrand

Arthur “AJ” Gullstrand, 75, a resident of Houghton passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the Omega House in Houghton with his sons by his side following a short illness.

     He was born on May 19, 1948, in Houghton, MI, a son of the late Bernard “Buck” and Mary “Mugga” (Gergurich) Gullstrand.  AJ was raised in Houghton and was a graduate of Houghton High School with the class of 1966.  He then attended Northern Michigan University receiving a psychology degree.

     Mr. Gullstrand then moved to Savage, MN, and worked as the head mechanic at the Yamaha Dealership for 15 years.  He returned to the Copper Country and was the manager for NAPA Auto until retiring to help care for his mother and operating his own motorcycle repair business Savage Cycle.

     AJ loved riding his Harley, following hockey, pet dogs, and spending time with his family and friends.

     Surviving are:

            His sons: Gabe Gullstrand of Houghton

                           Ben (Jada) Gullstrand of Houghton

            His grandsons: August, Gage and Gunner

            His special soul mate: Diane Greenlees of Hancock

            His sister: Carol Wiitanen of Houghton

            His nephew: Ron Wiitanen of Houghton

            Several cousins and many friends.

     As requested, burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery of Michigamme, MI.
