TAPIOLA
Arnold W. Pesola, 90, of Tapiola, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at the Lighthouse at Hancock.
He was born April 3, 1927, in Houghton, Michigan, to Arvo and Lydia (Moilanen) Pesola and attended the John A. Doelle School.
Arnold served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He married the former Sylvia Tuohimaa on June 25, 1949.
Arnold owned Pesolas Furniture in South Range, later moving the store to Hancock and then to M-26 in Houghton.
He served as Pastor for the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Sault Ste. Marie for 22 years.
Arnold was a member of the Tapiola Apostolic Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing and traveling around and spent many years visiting folks in nursing homes.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, a resident of the Lighthouse at Hancock;
children, Jean (Thomas) Heider, Faye (Wayne) Nygord and Bruce Pesola (Meg Hiltunen); 11 grandchildren, Wayne, Jr., Theresa, Wallace (Tiffany), Wade (Jeri), Crystal, Danielle, Michael, Joseph (Shannon), David (Angelea), Victor and Leanne; 11 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Rebecca, Wyatt, Mark, Weston, Benjamin, Sylvia, Tucker, Ava, Eli and Emma; a sister, Esther Juntunen; two sisters-in-law, Florence Pesola and Helen Pesola; a brother-in-law, David (Pauline) Tuohimaa; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Arvo (Irene), Raymond, Gordon (Sylvia), Kenneth, Aale, Walter and Albert; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosella (Arvo) Jalkanen, Ruth (Russell) Kemppainen, Maida (Kenneth) Tarro, Helen (Gordon) Karsama and Shirley (Roy) Byykkonen.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2018, at the Tapiola Apostolic Lutheran Church in Tapiola, with Pastor Ken Storm to officiate. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Monday in the church. Spring burial will be in the Elo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Tapiola Apostolic Lutheran Church in the name of Arnold W. Pesola.
