Arlene (Huhta) Vuorinen, 77, a resident of Houghton, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, following a courageous battle with leukemia.
She was born on August 12, 1944, in Hancock, MI, a daughter of the late Arvo and Pearl (Kilpela) Huhta. Arlene was raised in Portage Entry and attended the Chassell Schools.
On April 7, 1962, she was united in marriage to Reijo Vuorinen. While Reijo was in the Navy the couple resided in Memphis, TN and Lexington Park, MD. They then resided in West Allis, WI. During that time Arlene worked for Ryder Truck Rental. For the past 19 years, she has made her home in Houghton. Arlene worked as a department manager for Walmart before her retirement. On March 6, 2008, Reijo preceded Arlene in Death.
Arlene enjoyed taking trips to the casino, watching game shows, working crossword puzzles, camping at Witz Marina, boating, reading books, listening to music, watching hockey, and following the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Tigers.
Preceding her in death were her husband Reijo, her parents, her brothers: Harlan and Donald.
Surviving are: Her children: Greg (Jamie) Vuorinen & Carrie (Michael) Beaudoin; Her grandchildren: Jenna, Wesley, Kimberly, Erick (Angie), Aaron (Briana), Michael, Matthew (Gillian); Her great-grandchildren: Brady, Isabelle, Bailey, Aubrey, Kiera, Weston, Wyatt, Luca, Griffin, FlorenceHer sisters: Lora “LaLa” Huhta and her special friend Ronald Jestila & Brenda (Ron) Ervast of ChassellShe will be dearly missed by her feline companion Ernie; Her in-laws: Urpo (Darlene) Vuorinen, Phebe Vuorinen, & Shirley Hill; Her soul-sisters: Gayle Ziolecki and Mary Norkol Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A memorial service for Arlene will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. Soren Schmidt to officiate.
Friends may call on Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 11 am until the time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
Arlene’s family would like to thank Drs. Abedin and Dr. Carlson and the medical and Hospice Staff of Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee and the cancer care nurses and UP Health Systems Portage for the care given to Arlene.
