Obituary: Archie S. Homola

Hancock

Archie S. Homola, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2019, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where he had been a resident patient for the past 3 years.

He was born June 8, 1939, in Gackle, ND, a son of the late Frank and Hulda (Niskanen) Homola. Archie resided and worked as a mason for different contractors in lower Michigan and the Copper Country.

Archie was united in marriage to Ardith Ruonavaara. She preceded him in death on October 15, 2002. He was later united in marriage to Alice Johnston-Tervo. She preceded him in death on May 14, 2017.

Archie was a life-long member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. He enjoyed the outdoors including camping, ice fishing and cross country skiing.

He is survived by his children; son, Kevin (Janice) of Wixom, MI; daughters, Sharolyn (Paul) Muonio of Battle Ground, WA, Maria (Jason) Macfarlane of Kalispell, MT, Brenda (Mike) Bunn of Buffalo, MN, Laura (Marsae) McCray of Montrose, MN; 22 grand-children; brothers, Clifford, Dennis and Kenneth; sisters, Elna Kopman, Delores Urban and Mary Ann Olsen.

Alice’s children; Valerie (John) Mehner of Laurium, Tom (Jane) Tervo of Battle Ground, WA, Kathie (Frank) Hammerstrom of Battle Ground, WA, Janice (John) Obee of Farmington Hills, MI. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, step-grandchildren and friends.

Archie was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, sister, Eldora Skog and brothers, Melvin and Delano.

Funeral services for Archie will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, June 27, 2019, at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock with Ronald Jouppe to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery of Calumet.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 26, 2019, from 6 to 8:00 pm at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock and on Thursday from 10 am until time of services at the church.
