As received from Memorial Chapel Funeral and Cremation Service:

Anthony John “Tony” Kitchen, a radiant soul known for his worldly pursuits, his contemplative conversations, and his unexpected charm, died on July 9 in Chicago, IL, due to natural causes. He was 39.

Born on May 28, 1984, in Hancock, MI, Tony was a cherished son of Dennis and Diane (Ristila) Kitchen. After graduating from Hancock Central High School, Tony’s academic journey took him to Northwestern Michigan College and later to the University of Missouri-Columbia, where earned a B.A. in English. During his years at Missouri he also contributed his skills as a student coach assistant for the Mizzou Tigers football program, proudly earning two college bowl rings.

Inspired by the literary legacy of Ernest Hemingway, Tony embarked on his own odyssey as an expatriate. His transformative journey led him to Busan, South Korea, where he taught English for nearly four enriching years. Furthering his commitment to global understanding, he ventured to Bratislava, Slovakia, before settling in Budapest, Hungary, to pursue a master’s degree in International Relations at the esteemed Central European University. Throughout his international sojourns, he graced over 30 countries spanning four continents with his inquisitive spirit.

Tony’s professional endeavors mirrored his global affinity, as he worked in the international trade and investment sector. Returning to the United States in 2017, he moved to San Francisco, working for the United Kingdom’s Department for International Trade. At the time of his untimely passing, Tony was a trade director for the Australian Trade and Investment Commission.

Tony’s legacy is imprinted not only in his professional achievements but also in his tender connections. Preceding him in death were his father Dennis, his beloved sister Elisha, and his nephew MJ. Tony’s enduring impact is felt by his devoted family and a global community of friends who have been touched by his warm heart, quick humor, and insightful conversations.
