Ann M. Degenaer, age 57, of Baraga, MI passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse, MI. She was born in L’Anse on November 21, 1965 the daughter of the late John H. and Lillian “Effie” (Boodry) Messer, Sr. Ann graduated from Baraga High School in 1983 and attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette. MI. She married Patrick “Pat” Degenaer at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Assinins, MI on February 1, 1985. Ann had been employed with the Ojibwa Casino as a Surveillance Observer and retired in November of 2021. She was a member of Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, Ojibwa Senior Center and the Baraga Hockey Association. Ann enjoyed playing cribbage, traveling, watching the Lions and Redwings and had played basketball while in high school. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Ann is survived by her loving husband Pat of Baraga, sons Brett Degenaer of Baraga, Jeffrey Degenaer (Kelli Ervast) of Negaunee, MI, and Trenton and Zachary Degenaer both of Baraga, grandchild Kolby, sister Mary Messer, brothers John Messer, Jr, and Michael Messer, Sr (Stacy Tikkanen) all of Baraga. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, aunts and uncles and her nephew.
Funeral services for Ann will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Father Corey Litzner officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Immediately following the service, friends are invited to join the family for fellowship and a luncheon at the Ojibwa Senior Center, Baraga.
Interment will take place in the Assinins Cemetery.
