Obituary: Angeline Moilanen

UPDATE: A graveside service for Angeline will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 1:00 pm in the Lake View Cemetery, section AA.

Angeline Moilanen, 92, a resident of Calumet passed away on Wednesday November 9, 2022 at Portage Pointe in Hancock.

She was born on March 23, 1930 in Calumet a daughter to Joseph and Rose (Rozman) Lanfranki.

She graduated from the Sacred Heart School.

On June 5, 1948 she was united in marriage to Reuben Moilanen at St. Mary’s Catholic Church parsonage in Calumet. Reuben preceded her in death on June 19, 2019 after 71 years of marriage.

In 1950, Angie and her family moved to Detroit where she worked for Cook Coffee Company as a bookkeeper and for Federal Department Store as a clerk. 

After moving back to the Copper County in 1961, she worked for Montgomery Wards as a clerk then Wylie Loans as a loan officer. 

Angie loved being at her camp in Little Betsy in the summer. She also loved to play cards with her husband, bake and cook for her family, and watch her favorite teams, the Detroit Lions and the Detroit Red Wings.

She was proud to be better at fishing than her husband and also enjoyed bird and rabbit hunting. 

Angie was a life long member of Sacred Heart Church in Calumet.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Reuben, son in law Mike Kovachich, sister Mary Ann Thomas and brother Joe Lanfranki.

She is survived by: daughter Andrea Kovachich of Calumet,

2 granddaughters: Michelle Kovachich and Krissy (Ernie) Tepsa as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday November 15, 2022 at 11:00 am with Fr. Gracious Pulimoottil to officiate and Deacon Art Stancher to assist.

Friends and family may attend the visitation at Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home on Monday November 14, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 pm on Monday.
