Obituary: Allie E. Lamoureux

Allie E. Lamoureux, 91, of Rabbit Bay, passed peacefully during the early morning hours of Saturday, June 8 at Houghton County Medical Care. Allie was born on May 1, 1928 at the Nurmi Farm on Old Colony Road in Calumet.

The daughter of Mary (Kajula) and John, she is predeceased by sisters Marie, Laila, Vieno and Delores, brothers John and Wes, and survived
by brother Henry.

While still very young, Allie moved to Detroit and met husband Arthur, marrying in 1949.  Together they operated a successful auto auction for over 35 years and resided in West Bloomfield, raising Paul and Theresa. In 1987, she convinced Art to retire in her native area, settling on the shore of Lake Superior in Rabbit Bay and building a beautiful home. The two
traveled together extensively with their close friends Frank and Rita from Chicago. In winter, they would escape to their home in Delray Beach, FL. Later, Allie would spend winters in Arizona, residing next door to Theresa in Quartzsite.

A friendly and generous person, Allie loved to host parties and welcomed guests at all times.  She will be remembered for her outgoing personality, her polished manner and attentiveness to always looking her best. The same could also be said of her residence, which she always maintained to meticulous detail.

Allie couldn’t wait for grandchildren to arrive and loved doting on Andrew, Heather and Jade.  She also loved and supported stepgrandchildren Brian and Ulan. After Arthur’s death in 2000, Allie continued to enjoy the companionship of local family and friends and universally welcomed
anyone into her home.

Funeral services will be held at Ryan Funeral Home on Saturday, June 15 at 11 AM. Visitors may call on Friday between 5 and 7 PM and again Saturday morning beginning at 9:30.

Memorials may be directed to the Bootjack Fire Department First Responders, 47715 Bootjack Rd., Lake Linden, MI 49945.
