Obituary: Allen J. DeCota

Allen J. DeCota, age 70 of L’Anse, MI passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at HSHS St Mary’s Hospital Medical Center in Green Bay, WI. He was born in Beartown, Baraga, MI on September 3, 1953 the son of the late Joseph and Marie (Arsanault) DeCota. Allen had been employed as a drywaller for various construction companies. He was a member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Church, Assinins, MI and the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. Allen loved being with his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, whittling native pipes and other crafts, fishing and hunting.

Allen is survived by his loving wife Lori Picard of L’Anse, daughters Renee Moilanen of Iron Mountain, MI, Dana Picard of L’Anse, Jennifer Picard of L’Anse, Ava Picard of Baraga, and Caroline Picard (Robert Swartz) of L’Anse, grandchildren Ronald, Rebecca, Victoria, Dayonna, Dayten, Dayella, Bryten, Bentley, Wyatt, Ryver, Alayna, McKenzy, Lori Ann, and Grant, numerous great grandchildren, brothers Mike (Lynn) DeCota of L’Anse, Ronald (Annette) DeCota of Baraga, Dave DeCota of Baraga, Joel DeCota of Escanaba, and George DeCota. Several special nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret “Peanut”, brothers Bryan and Joseph “Butchie”, niece Kelly, and nephews Allen and Fredrick.

Traditional native drumming followed by a feast will be held at 1 00 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Zeba Hall.

Interment will take place in the Assinins Cemetery.
