Obituary: Allan Thomas Mitchell

Allan Thomas Mitchell, age 69 of Baraga, MI passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 21, 2019.

He was born September 23, 1949 in Hancock, MI son of Harold and Aurelia (St Onge) Mitchell. Allan was a Vietnam Veteran; drafted in 1969 to 1971, he served in Germany. He then went to trade school for pipe fitting and worked in the trade until an accident caused him to be disabled in 2004.

IN 1995 Allan married Marilyn Pakkala. Allan was a wonderful father and grandfather to his new subsequent family.

Allan had a lot of friends. He loved to garden, and many people watched to see what he would grow each year. He enjoyed feeding and watching birds, turkeys and deer. Allan also enjoyed the Ottowa Sportsman Club and was proud to serve as secretary for a few years. Allan loved trapping and hunting and even after his injury he shot a buck most every year. Allan loved to spend time at camp with his family, and sauna was a regular event. Allan also spent a lot of time in the woods, enjoying trees and being outdoors. He was the president of Mitchell Tree Farm in Baraga.

Preceded in death by his parents Harold and Aurelia and brother Paul Mitchell.

Survived by his wife Marilyn Mitchell; children Dawn and Robert Jacobs; grandchildren, Alexis, Kianna, Robert and Rayleah; siblings Joan (Tom) Miller of Texas, Gail (Harold) Herrala, Ronald (Lori) Mitchell and Mike Mitchell all of Baraga; special cat Milo; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Baraga County Area Veterans will conduct military rites on Friday, June 28th at 12:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home, his funeral will follow with Rev. Judy Mattson officiating. Visitation will be from 11-12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A luncheon will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 444 in Baraga. Burial will be on Friday, July 5th at the Baraga Cemetery 11:00 a.m. with committal prayers by Rev. Judy Mattson.
