Obituary: Adam Marvar

UPDATE: The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. on July 2, 2022 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Dollar Bay, with burial to follow.

Adam Joseph Marvar died January 15, 2022. He was 92 years old. Adam was born in Dodgeville, Michigan on December 19, 1929 to Joseph and Josephine Marvar.

He graduated Houghton High School in 1949 and entered the US Air Force where he eventually reached the rank of staff sergeant and was deployed in Europe to instruct NATO member countries on hydraulic maintenance of their US-made aircraft.

After the military, he graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1958 with a BS in Industrial Arts and earned an MA in Guidance and Counseling in 1961.

His career began in 1958 at Flint Dye High School teaching industrial arts, and in 1959 he moved to the Troy School district where he taught industrial arts, civics and eventually focused on guidance and counseling at Troy High School until he retired after the 1988 school year.

Adam enjoyed a long and happy retirement at his special place in the Copper Country, visited frequently by friends and relatives from near and far.

He is survived by his former spouse, Janet, his sons, Paul (Rhonda) and Todd (Sandi), grandchildren Emily, Joseph, Ryan, Harper and Sawyer, and many dear nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Adam was also preceded in death by brothers, Anthony, Martin, and Vincent Peter Marvar; and sisters, Mary Simonsen, Eve Elwood and Josephine Engman.
