Nancy L. Kiiskila

Nancy L. Kiiskila, 82, of Lower Point Mills Road, Dollar Bay, died Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital.

She was born May 12, 1935, in Hancock, Michigan, a daughter of the late Thomas and Johanna (Jylha) Olson and was a 1953 graduate of the Hancock Central High School.

On September 4, 1954, she married Carl Kiiskila in Hancock.  He preceded her in death in January of 2008.

Nancy was employed at the Upper Peninsula Power Company, was a bookkeeper at Northwood’s Sporting Goods in Hancock, and worked in loan servicing at D&N Bank in Hancock, retiring from there.

Nancy and Carl were huge fans of the Michigan Tech Hockey Huskies.  They were season ticket holders for many years.  Nancy had a passion for shopping.  She had a knack for finding a good bargain.  Her greatest joy in life was her love for family.  She put family first above everything else.  She was very proud of her children and her grandchildren and enjoyed attending her grandkids sporting events, always there cheering them on.  Nancy will be sorely missed by those who loved her dearly. She leaves her family with good memories to cherish for many years to come.

Nancy is survived by her children, Linda (Neil) Francis of Wisconsin Rapids, Carl (Susan) Kiiskila of Gaylord, Gail (Bob) Prowant of Frisco, Texas, and David (Laurie) Kiiskila of Hancock; six grandchildren, Lindsey Heinrich, Shawn (Tiffany) Kiiskila, Jason (Jenny) Kiiskila, Andrew (Holly) Prowant, Janelle (Krishna) Bellam, and Jeffrey Kiiskila; 8 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Rett, Lilly, Isabel, Ella, Riley, Trace and Bodhi; Molly Myllyoja who was like a granddaughter to Nancy; a sister, Norma Kangas, a patient at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility; a brother, Thomas (Nancy) Olson of Hancock; Shirley Gilliam and Johanna Axford who were like sisters to Nancy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband, Nancy was also preceded in death by her siblings, Henry, Irving, Margaret Raisanen, Laura White, Katherine Kenny, Nellie Petrelius, Evelyn Hahka.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home in Hancock, with Bob Prowant to officiate.  Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday in the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.  The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Michigan Chapter Upper Peninsula Region, 309 Front St. #233, Marquette, MI 49855 in the name of Nancy L.
