Margaret Eileen “Cookie” Kiiskila

Margaret Eileen “Cookie” Kiiskila, 74, a long-time resident of Dollar Bay, died Thursday, July 6, 2017, at the Omega House.

She was born September 7, 1942, in Hancock, a daughter of the late Woodrow and Margaret (Grahel) Bugge, and was a 1960 graduate of the Dollar Bay High School.

On June 24, 1960, she was married to Walter Kiiskila at First Lutheran Church in Dollar Bay.

Cookie worked as a home health aide for many years.

She was an active member of First Lutheran Church of Dollar Bay where she served on the church council and lunch committee. Cookie enjoyed reading and working in her raspberry and flower gardens. She was a caregiver and volunteer to countless people and organizations in need over the years, including Relay for Life. She loved kids. She made costumes for both MTU’s theater and the Calumet Theater for many years. Spending time with family and grandchildren brought great joy to Cookie.

Cookie is survived by her husband of 57 years, Walter of Dollar Bay; children, Debbie (Randy) Rush of Florida, Walt, Jr. “Buddy” of Calumet, William “Bill” (Shannon) of Florida, Stephen (Michelle) of Texas, Mike (Jo) of Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, David (Mary Lynn) of Michigan, Kenneth (Sue) of Florida, John (Candy) of Minnesota; one sister, Andrea (Mark) Cloutier of Wisconsin; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A meorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017, First Lutheran Church in Dollar Bay with Pastor D.J. Rasner to officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service on Friday in the church. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church of Dollar Bay in the name of Margaret E. Kiiskila. Arrangements are being handled by the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home of Hancock, Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
