Lynn A. Somero

Dollar Bay: Lynn A. Somero was born April 24, 1963, the youngest child of Lloyd and Sarah (Binoniemi) Wiitala in Point Mills, Michigan. She graduated from Dollar Bay High School in 1981, and attended Suomi College in Hancock for a year, majoring in Business. Lynn married Mark Somero of Dollar Bay on May 3, 1985; they enjoyed 32 years together before her passing on August 26th.

In December of 1986 Lynn and Mark moved to Marquette, MI to attended Northern Michigan University where Lynn earned her Associates Degree in Business. She was employed by the Lasco Development Corporation for several years before relocating to Menominee, MI for Mark to pursue employment. Lynn was employed by the Menominee County Friend of the Court for 15 years before ill health forced her early retirement.

Lynn and Mark moved to Dollar Bay in 2013 to be closer to aging families and pursue their interests and love of the outdoors in the Copper Country. Lynn was a voracious reader and enjoyed educating herself and exploring the world via print. Isle Royale was a very special vacation destination, and was looked forward to with great anticipation.

Lynn loved her little dog, Winchester, and truly enjoyed taking him on his daily walks. They both enjoyed the outdoors on these little expeditions.

A recent severe illness limited Lynn’s activities, and resulted in her residency at The Lighthouse at Hancock Rehab Center. She worked extremely hard at recovery, but her health issues were just too devastating to overcome.

Lynn died peacefully on Saturday morning, August 26, 2017. She will always be remembered as an extremely kind person that truly enjoyed the outdoors and always looked at the positive side of things.

Lynn will be sadly missed by all that knew her, especially Mark and Winchester. A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday August 31, 2017 at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock with Soren Schmidt to officiate. Visitation will be from 1 P.M. until the time of the services at the funeral home.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Copper Country Humane Society, PO Box 453, Houghton, MI 49931 or to Little Brothers~Friends of the Elderly, 527 Hancock St., Hancock, MI 49930 in the name of Lynn Somero.
