Junetta I. Ranta, 93, a resident of Centerline Apartments in Lake Linden passed away on Tuesday September 26, 2017.
She was born on October 4, 1923 in Mason a daughter of the late Charles and Ulriika (Tuovila) Lantto.
Junetta attended the Tamarack School. She later received her Nursing Degree from Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
On August 20, 1950 she was married to Donald Ranta and he preceded her in death on March 8, 1970.
Junetta worked at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Detroit and in 1974 moved to the Copper Country and was employed at Our Lady of Mercy in Hubbell retiring in 1993 as Director of Nursing.
She was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Calumet.
Preceding her in death were: 9 sisters: Edna, Martha, Lillian, Selma, Ruth, Verna, Ida, Anna and Evelyn and 2 brothers: Charles and Arvid.
Surviving is: 1 Daughter Barb (Ron) Kangas of Bootjack
1 Son Don (Kathy) Ranta of Ishpeming
12 Grandchildren: Heather (Kevin) Millonig, Liisa (Andrew) Halonen, Scott (Lisa) Kangas, Greg (Mary Kay) Kangas, Keith (Jill) Kangas, Becky (Ian) Anderson, Katie (Brady) Bekkala, Kara (Chris) Kjellman, Ben Ranta, Christopher Ranta, Leah (Dan) Nygard and Erin Ranta
24 Great Grandchildren
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her.
A funeral service will be held on Friday September 29, 2017 at 1:00 PM in the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Calumet with Joe Eskola to officiate.
Visitation will be on Thursday September 28, 2017 from 4-8 PM in the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet and one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Friday.
