Chassell: John E. Sustarich, 85, a former resident of Chassell, passed away on April 10, 2016 in Macomb, Michigan.
He was born on August 12, 1930, the fourth son of the late Frank and Mary Sustarich of Calumet. He resided in Rambletown, later graduating from Calumet High School with the class of 1948. On September 2, 1961 he married Louisa Russell at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church of Franklin Mine. They resided in Calumet for 5 years, moving to Chassell in 1966. John spent 2 years in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at the A & P Store for 15 years, and then by Fraki’s Market of L’Anse until his retirement in April of 1993.
John was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Chassell, and was a 25 year member of the Portage Lake Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Louisa of Macomb; a son, Michael (Ann) Sustarich of Midland; two daughters: Lori (Kevin) Curie of Appleton, WI and Mary (John) McHale of Macomb; grandchildren Nicole (Kevin) Kauth, Bailey Curie, Catherine McHale, and Emily Sustarich; and great-grandchild Kyla Kauth.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his 3 brothers: Rudolph, Frank, and Joseph; and a half sister, Mary.
Both Louisa and John will be taken back home and buried at Forest Hill Cemetery at 11am on Saturday, July 1, 2017.
