Jack Arvid Lattrel

Jack Arvid Lattrel, age 89 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Bayside Village.

He was born December 14, 1927 in Ishpeming, MI. Jack graduated from L’Anse High School in 1945. He married Therese Archambeau on September 30, 1950 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Baraga, MI. Jack then enlisted in the US Navy until he was drafted into the US Army during the Korean war. He returned and joined his father in business. He owned and operated Jack A.Lattrel & Son Salvage Company until retiring in 1988.

Jack was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, past Grand Knight of Council 2934 of the Knights of Columbus, past member of the Eagles, and a member of the American Legion Post 144.

He enjoyed operating heavy equipment, writing letters to the editor, hunting, fishing, boating, traveling, dancing, square dancing, playing the piano and accordion, and singing in church. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren and looked forward to attending their musical, academic, and sporting events. His cooking was appreciated at many Christian Men’s breakfasts, Eagles-hosted Thanksgiving dinners and KC fish fries. Jack will be remembered for his energetic attitude, many civic contributions, abiding faith in humanity, devotion to his family, and singing to his wife.

He is survived by his daughters, Christine Lattrel of Escanaba, MI, Susan (Greg) Sobolewski of Winona, MN; grandchildren, Stephen, Tracey, David, Amy, John; great grandchildren, Zoey, Tori, Jack, Miriam, Leo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding him in death are his parents Earl and Eunice (Olgren) Lattrel; wife Therese; son John Lattrel; brother August Knuutila; and sister Edna Brogan.

Jack’s funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, October 24th at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus with Fr. Corey Litzner officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. in the church with the Knights of Columbus service at 10:45 a.m. The burial will be in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery with military rites by the Baraga County Area Veterans under the direction of American Legion Post 444. A luncheon will follow the burial in the church hall. The Jacobson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
