Evelyn “Evie” (Lindrus) Turpeinen, 75 of Alston died suddenly at her home with her family by her side on November 9th 2017.
She was born on February 17, 1942 in L’Anse, daughter of John and Selma Lindrus. Evie attended the Alston School and graduated from Baraga High School with the class of 1959. She was employed by the Upper Peninsula Power Company as a secretary following graduation. She was a member of Mission United Lutheran Church. On February 23, 1963 she married Robert “Bob” Turpeinen. Her career began as a wife and mother to her family. She was active in St. Henry’s Lutheran Church in many youth activities. She taught sewing and arts and crafts for 4-H at the Laird school. She enjoyed cake decorating and would spoil her kids with fresh baked bread at least one day a week after school. Bob and Evie enjoyed traveling in later years.
She was proceeded in death by Bob May 9, 1994. After his death, her grandchildren became her hobby. She attended hockey, figure skating, basketball and gymnastics always enjoying watching her grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters Mina (Mike) Delene, Lori Turpeinen (Kale) and Sara (Bill) Delene. 6 grandchildren Tyler Delene, Nicole (Phil) Acciacca, Robbie Alberts of Illinois, Julia (Tyler) Brusky of Wisconsin and Ellie and Elisa Delene. 2 Great grandchildren Billy and Faith Brusky. Sisters Vivian Grentz of Nisula, Martha (Mervin) Pelto of Finlayson, MN, Jean Pelto of Marquette, Ruth Normand of Chassell. Brother Rodney (Carol) Lindrus of Hancock. Sister-in-law Ruth Lindrus of Libertyville, Ill. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Evie was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers: Leslie and Norman (Virgina) Lindrus.
Funeral services for Mrs. Turpeinen will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2017 at Mission United Lutheran Church, Pelkie with Pastor John Ansell officiating. The family will greet friends at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Immediately following the funeral service, interment will take place in the Nisula Cemetery. A luncheon will be held in the church hall.
