Tamarack City: Dorothy Bonen, 77, of Tamarack City, passed away at The Lighthouse at Hubbell on September 22, 2017.
She was born on February 6, 1940, a daughter of Martin and Laura Klein. She graduated from Dollar Bay High School. Later, she was a graduate of Suomi College where she earned the Sisu award, and the College of Saint Teresa in Winona, MN with a Bachelor’s degree in Art Therapy.
She taught art at Lake Linden and Calumet Schools and she worked at the Western U.P. Health Dept, where she retired as an Art Therapist.
Dorothy was married to Benedict Bonen in July of 1962. He passed away in 1999.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Calumet and the Red Hat Society.
Dorothy was very creative and loved art and drawing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother-Robert, nephews-Ben and Andy, and 2 sons-in-law-David Pokorny and Peter Starr.
She is survived by: 4 daughters-Mary (Sean) OConnell of Clinton Twp, MI, Diane Starr of Oakland, CA, Lori (Barry) Moreland of Citrus Hts, CA and Patti (Terry) Sidle of Citrus Hts, CA; 4 grandchildren-Megan and Ben Moreland and Quin and Sophia Sidle; a sister-Susan (William) Baccus; sister-in-law-Rose Marie Klein; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Calumet with Fr. Abraham Mupparathara to officiate. Visitation will be from 6 until 8:00 PM on Monday, September 25 at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with a parish prayer service at 7:30.
