Dave (Chizza) Ahonen, 77, a resident of Big Traverse passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 24, 2017.
He was born on March 18, 1940 in Laurium to Toivo and Maime (Koivu) Ahonen.
He attended Calumet High School.
Following high school, Dave enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for 2 years.
After being honorably discharged from the United States Army, he operated Daves DX Gas Station on Fifth Street in Calumet. He then went on to work on Isle Royale for the National Park Service, retiring in 2002 as the Water Plant Operator.
He enjoyed restoring vehicles, fishing, making wood, and doing anything he could to be outdoors. He also enjoyed taking rides on the lakeshore in Big Traverse to check the lake and the beach.
He loved spending time with his family.
On August 20, 1960 he married Mary Buckett in Laurium.
He was a member of the Calumet United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Toivo and Maime, 2 brothers; George and John, 1 infant sister; Eva, and his daughter; Jona.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet with Pastor Jayme Palaszeski to officiate. Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas McConnon, Melissa Salani P.A., the staff at Upper Great Lakes Health Center Lake Linden Clinic, and the Staff at UP Health System-Portage Oncology Department for the wonderful care they have given Dave.
