Carol Ann Ojala, age 81 of Baraga, MI passed away on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Bayside Village in L’Anse, MI.
She was born July 3, 1936 in Hancock, MI daughter of Joseph and Leona (Donpier) Schutte. Carol graduated from Baraga High School in 1954. She married Frederick Ojala on November 27, 1955. They resided in Baraga and she worked as a CNA at Winkler’s Nursing Home than Bayside Village and Copper Country Mental Health.
Carol was a member of St Ann’s Church and American Legion Post 444 Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing Bingo, watching hockey and was an avid Detroit Red Wings fan, and followed her grandchildren in their sports. She was a loving and caring person and was always giving.
Surviving are her husband Frederick Ojala of Baraga; daughters, Diane (Scott) Dillon of Baraga, Deb (Tim) Kangas of Dewitt, MI; 6 grandchildren, Danielle, David, Dana, Alec, Kortney, Ciara; 8 great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Anne Schutte of Baraga.
Preceding her in death are her parents; sons Dave and DanO; brothers, Joseph Schutte Jr, Jim Schutte; and sister Mary “Sis” Kayramo.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 2nd at 11 a.m. at St Ann’s Church with Deacon John Cadeau officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
