WUPPDR Drafts Economic Plan for Baraga County

A draft for an economic strategic plan for Baraga County has been completed. The Western Upper Peninsula Planning & Development Region has been researching the area for about a year and feel that the three strategies they have created take into account the county’s competitive advantages, natural resources and recent economic development. Jerry Wuorenmaa, a planner at WUPPDR, says that one of the strategies involves expanding the services available at Baraga Memorial Hospital.

The second strategy deals with extending infrastructure to the Lambert Road Industrial Park and the third is to increase local food production and develop a regional distribution point for local produce. A presentation will take place Monday March 24th during the L’Anse Village Council meeting. To view the draft of the plan, click here.
