Workers’ Compensation rates are on the decline in the state.
Michigan Workers’ Compensation Director Kevin Elsenheimer says businesses in Michigan have saved more than 277 million dollars since 2011. The decrease in costs to business this year is 6.5 percent, and the lower payment will take effect January first. Elsenheimer says the biggest reason for the decline is a 2011 law that requires a worker take the next reasonable job available, instead of waiting until they’re well enough to do their original job. He also cites an improving economy, and better efficiency at the agency.
