Wolf Opponents Suing Over Hunting Law

Wolf hunting opponents are suing the state claiming the Michigan law giving the Natural Resources Commission the authority to designate game species is unconstitutional.

The group, Keep Michigan Wolves Protected, says the law, approved last year by the legislature, violates the Constitution’s single subject clause because it contains too many different subjects in one act, including licensing policy for veterans and a $1 million appropriation for Asian carp prevention.

When the legislature adopted the law, it made moot two successful ballot proposals that would have blocked a wolf hunt.

Keep Michigan Wolves Protected Director Jill Fritz says the state law is a cynical and veiled attempt to prevent Michigan voters from having a say on hunting of wolves and other animals.
