The Copper Country is dotted with small towns that are shadows of what they were during their heyday.
One of those towns is Winona in southern Houghton County.
Retired Sociology Professor and Documentary Filmmaker Doctor Michael Loukinen takes an in depth look at this so-called Ghost Town in his latest movie.
Loukinen says the town struggled along for a few years after the mines closed but little is left now.
Loukinen’s movie features Houghton Historian Dr. Larry Lankton and Archaeologist Susan Martin.
Winona—A Copper Country Ghost Town premieres at the Calumet Theater on Saturday showing at 7pm.
