Michael Fulmer’s gem was wasted, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-0 Saturday. Fulmer pitched six shutout innings. He should have closed out the seventh, but third baseman Nicholas Castellanos couldn’t catch the Curtis Granderson popup that would have been the third out of the inning. Granderson wound up at second base, and scored on Adrian Gonzalez’ single. L-A added a run off Alex Wilson in the eighth, and another off Shane Greene in the ninth. Detroit managed just four hits off Hyun-Jin Ryu and three relievers.
The Tigers have lost 12 of their last 14 games, and conclude that series against the Dodgers this afternoon. Justin Verlander will start against Kenta Maeda. pregame coverage will start at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Jesús Aguilar’s pinch-hit home run in the top of the ninth inning powered the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies Saturday. The Brewers opened an early 3-0 lead, thanks in part to a Travis Shaw home run. The Rockies got one back against starter Brandon Woodruff in the fourth, and tied it with a pair off Jacob Barnes and Josh Hader in the seventh.
Those teams play again today in Denver. Chase Anderson will return from the disabled list to start for Milwaukee. Kyle Freeland will counter for the Rockies.
The Cubs won, and the Cardinals lost, so Milwaukee remains two games behind Chicago, in second place in the National League Central Division. St. Louis is two-and-a-half games out.
