Wild Ones leading campus tour Saturday

Exploring every stage of life from nascent seed to mature growth, Keweenaw Wild Ones will be hosting a Tree Tour on Michigan Tech’s campus Saturday, August 7th. The tour will begin at 2 pm, taking up to 30 participants around the university grounds.

The walk will be led by Professor R.J. Laverne, and will cover a number of flora that call MTU’s campus home. President Marcia Goodrich shares that the group wants to spread the knowledge of native plants and trees and how they have helped our environment become the way it is over a millennia.

So, if you’re interested in coming I would suggest you sign up quickly. The native plants of the Americas and the native insects and birds coevolved, and they have been living with each other for a very long time. I thought more people need to know about these wonderful flowers and ferns that do great things for the environment. They also soak up storm water, they’re easy care, and they’re beautiful in your garden.

Professor Laverne teaches in the College of Forestry at Michigan Tech and he is also the Director Planning and Education for the largest tree cutting company in America. Spots are limited, and space is filling up fast. To register for the event, visit here.
