*Edited to say only, “19-year-old passenger.”

Reports of multiple accidents came in over the weekend, most likely related to slick roads following Friday’s snowfall. The most serious crash involved multiple vehicles on US 41 near Lake Michigamme. One fatality was announced by the Michigan State Police Sunday. Two passengers were in the westbound vehicle, with the 20-year-old driver from Fenton succumbing to injuries sustained in the accident. The 19-year-old passenger is hospitalized in serious condition The highway was closed Saturday leading to traffic backups lasting as much as two hours. Our partners at ABC 10 and CW5 UP have more information.

Roads were still messy Sunday morning. M-26 in Lake Linden was described as a sheet of glass in a complaint made to the village just before noon. A single vehicle accident occurred in Atlantic Mine when a pickup truck slid off the road. There were no injuries reported in that incident.
