Welfare Changes Approved By Senate

Families receiving welfare could stand to lose their benefits if their kids skip too much school, under a bill that’s passed the State Senate.

The measure passed the Republican-controlled Senate 26-12.

Democrats argued the bill hurts kids and poor families.

The legislation now moves to the Michigan House, where lawmakers are expected to okay some changes made by the Senate.
