The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a woman who missed a recent court appearance having to do with a high-speed chase. 22-year-old Amber Smith is charged with third-degree fleeing and eluding a police officer and unlawfully driving away a motor vehicle. She had a pretrial conference scheduled for July 7th. However, Smith never showed up. She now has a bench warrant for her arrest. She’s accused of leading Michigan State Police on a chase in April on US-41 from Hancock to Mesnard Location a few miles north. Troopers say they tried to pull her over in Hancock for driving through a stop sign and failing to wear a seat belt. Smith moved to Hancock from the state of Georgia shortly before her arrest.
