Walk Through Calumet's History

Exploring history is one way to keep active.

The Keweenaw National Historical Park and the Western U.P. Health Department is inviting the public to a free historical tour and fitness walk.

The guided walk, called the Explore C&H’s Industrial Core, will cover one to two miles on mostly level terrain.

The tour will visit many historical sites from warehouses to bathhouses, as many of the buildings were used for different purposes–some of which have been re-purposed for modern uses and some have not—but they all have stories to tell.

The event will be held Tuesday from 5:30pm to 7:00pm in Calumet.

Participants should arrive at the Calumet Visitors Center and dress comfortably for the weather.

The walk is the seventh event a series of Step Into History activities hosted by the park and the Health Department through a grant from the National Park Foundation’s Active Trails program.

The local park was one of 25 national parks selected to receive one of the grants.

Fifteen walks, as well as other healthy activities, are being presented throughout 2016.
